In 2012, the Academy of Media Arts Cologne and the Westdeutscher Rundfunk Köln (WDR) are holding the 15th kurzundschön competition for young creatives. kurzundschön is a pan-European competition for students and apprentices in the audiovisual field. Annually, prices totalling about 30,000 EUR are awarded to outstanding cinematic, artistic and creative contributions by up-and-coming talents.
The award ceremony is celebrated annually in Cologne: The 2012 ceremony will be held with 400 invited guests on November 14th 2012.

In 2009, an award for the creative design of the networked and mobile world was launched:
mobile and wired: ideas for a networked world
In 2012, the WDR is announcing another special category:
scripts for a short crime film (up to 10 minutes max.)
The script will be professionally produced with the German actors Dietmar Bär and Klaus J. Behrends- known as Colognes “Tatort” detectives.
